The side quests are a good way to branch off and explore some of the vast landscape and the characters within this world. A lot of the side quests relate back to the main story anyway, providing more context and depth that makes the game that much better. Yet, players might not find all of them on their own. Here are a few great side quests fans might have overlooked.
10 The Ballad Of The Twins
The music is one of the most talked-about aspects of the Nier games, especially when it comes to classics like ‘‘Song of the Ancients’’. This quest is all about bringing the tavern twins together to sing an amazing rendition of this song, one for the fans.
After talking to the twins, players will have to go to Seafront and get a special drink for one of them. Shortly after, a collection of mouse and lizard tails will have to be rounded up in order to prepare the drink. This ultimately leads to a beautiful performance.
9 Boar Hunt
It might not be as chaotic as taking on a group of enemies. However, this quest pops up so early in the game that most players will struggle to take down the giant boar. Taking as little as two hits to kill the player, it takes some serious strategizing to get past this enemy.
The rewards are where the real action happens, giving players respect for all boars within the world. Players can now ride every boar in the game. Not only does this make travel faster, but players now enter any challenge with a lot more style.
8 Yonah’s Gift
Fetching ingredients for Yonah doesn’t sound like the most exciting time. However, the player does get to track down deer in the Southern Plains. Gathering the wheat, meanwhile, is as simple as going to the Grocery Store and buying it, getting to the real reward that much faster.
The dialogue scene at the end is the important part, advancing Yonah’s storyline. The protagonist’s main motivation is to cure Yonah of her illness. Anything they can do to make the goal a little easier is a plus, especially with the touching script.
7 The Damaged Map
Finding a treasure map is always going to lead to a fun adventure, taking the player through one of the longest step by step adventures in the game. The first half of the quest involves gathering materials in order to restore the tattered map, then the real fun starts.

The player sets out for the Lost Shrine and returns to town with the treasure. This will lead to another map. Eventually, players will come to the end of the wild hunt and be rewarded handsomely for it, finding the Labyrinth’s Shout weapon that they will need for the end game.
6 Disturbing The Sleep Of Kings
This is one of only a few side quests that requires more than the main story to unlock. Once the player completes A Shade Entombed, it’s not hard to guess that big things are coming. After talking to the king on the roof of his mansion, players will return to the Barren Temple and clear out the rest of the rooms with limited abilities.
The player will come to the boss room, a place they’ll recognize from earlier in the game, and defeat the Shade leader. Return to the king for one of the best prizes in the game, The Labyrinth Song. This very heavy sword, once upgraded fully, has massive attack power.
5 The Bridge In Peril
Talking to one of the guards near the Northern Gate to activate the quest, players will have to take down another essential shade that’s blocking off the bridge at the gates entrance. The fight itself should be manageable for most. Getting the thing to appear is the problem.
Unlike other enemies in the game, this shade isn’t too eager to fight. Unless the player gets incredibly lucky, they’ll often have to wait for foggy weather before it decides to show its face. 30,000 gold and another powerful weapon, Labyrinth’s Whisper, wait for them once the Shade is destroyed.
4 Nightmares And Dust
Unlike the other quests on this list, there’s no long adventure or key plot point to uncover along the way. The awesome thing about this quest is its short, sweet nature, as the player heads into the sandstorms for one shade.

During the last half of the game, players will be grateful for such a straightforward goal. This is made even sweeter by the 30,000 gold reward, a prize that usually comes with some extensive travel and combat.
3 A Shade Entombed
One of the most combat-intensive side quests in the game, A Shade Entombed will take players back to the Barren Temple after talking to a guard near the Facade’s entrance. Be ready for an extended test of battlefield skills.
Each room the player enters will have a specific set of rules that will handicap them. These increase in difficulty, further pushing the player’s limits. Take out as many rooms as possible, as it will determine how much work will be involved in the connected quest.
2 Postman’s Questline (3 quests)
One of the best stories outside of the main line, this trio of quests don’t have any grand rewards. However, they do deliver in full and put the player’s conscience to the test. Start off by delivering a letter from the Postman in Seafront Town, and things will quickly take a left turn.
The 2nd quest, The Lighthouse Lady’s Wrath, is where players will be faced with a moral dilemma. Whatever choice they make won’t effect the gameplay or even the reward, just how they feel about themselves. The final quest, Closure, wraps up the story and gives a sense of finality to small drama. The only reward is knowing what happens, and that the player made the best choice they could.
1 The Magical Stone
The last optional quest in the entire game, it’s not one that players want to miss out on. Only available once the player finds all five Key Fragments at the end of the game, they’ll have to speak travel into the Forest Of Myth to activate it.
Talking to the fortune teller, players will be sent to retrieve the Eye of Power at the Lost Shrine. Once players battle through the group of shades and take out their leader, the item will drop. The player must then return it to the fortune teller.
It’s here that players can agree to have their fortunes read. They’ll be transported back to the building at the start of the game, where they can grab the Iron Pipe weapon. Through this quest, players both get a callback and a new weapon with which to tackle the last chapters.
