While indie games tend to be governed by budgetary restrictions, Craftopia has managed to eke out and polish several important gameplay mechanics that make the game more enjoyable, yet add to its difficulty. With the steep learning curves usually associated with games of this nature, Craftopia could be a daunting entry for newcomers. Here are a few beginner tips to make things easier for players in the long run.

10 Gaining Experience

In Craftopia, players have to gain experience to level up their character. Leveling up leads to the unlocking of new sets of skills that will be useful in the later stages of the game. Passive abilities will give the player boosts to their health and mana levels. Active abilities include those that help players engage in combat with more powerful enemies - thereby increasing their strength as well.

Since this is a survival game, players have to gain their experience by mining ores, hunting animals, using wood and stones to craft their equipment. Hunting grants players a large amount of experience, so it is recommended that players engage in this activity as much as possible.

9 Gathering Gear

Craftopia does not offer the player any equipment whatsoever to get their journey to survival started. To survive in the harsh game world, players have to start thinking almost immediately about the gear that they will need. The basics that they require include an armor set and weapons to fend off attackers.

When the night falls, danger lurks around the corners in Craftopia. Players have to gather at least a sword and light armor before the first night sets in. An easy recommendation would be to hunt an animal and use its leather to craft leather armor. This will work for the very early stages of the game.

8 Advancing Through The Ages

Progression in Craftopia requires the player to advance through multiple ages that offer new technologies for the players to experience and experiment with. These technologies allow the player to craft new items to sustain their survival for longer periods. To progress through the ages, players have to craft an Altar of Civilization.

The player can then offer a multitude of materials and offerings to the Altar; this includes money as well. The number of offerings will be proportionate and predetermined according to the age that the player is currently in. The Frontier Age and Renaissance Age are particularly useful as they allow the player to harvest resources automatically through new buildings.

7 Dungeon Crawling

Post Level 20 in Craftopia, it is relatively easier to start with dungeons and fighting some bosses. By that time, the player would have a basic working knowledge of the game world and its mechanics. The dungeons in the game include a few interconnected chambers, with each chamber offering loot and enemies to kill.

At the end of the dungeon crawl, players will have to fight against a boss. Killing the boss could reward the player with substantial loot. Players have to keep their equipment updated before facing the bosses, as they can be quite troublesome to deal with.

6 Boosting Base Attributes

Craftopia is filled with islands, and above these islands is a floating landmass where players will find an NPC called Anubis. Players can build a path up to this floating island and talk to Anubis. They can then exchange their Slates of Growth for boosting their stamina, life, and mana permanently.

When the players are boosting their stats for the first time, it will require at least four Slates. This means that they will have to go further than the tutorial island and explore other islands. However, if players want to save their resources, they can craft the path to Anubis on the tutorial island, as the floating island is lower there.

5 Farming

Sleeping and drinking aren’t requirements in the game. Nonetheless, players have to make sure that they eat. If they don’t eat, then the character will starve, and their health will slowly decrease. Players can hunt to acquire food, but one of the best ways to manage constant food sourcing is farming.

Exploring different islands will grant better seeds. These seeds can be harvest into crops and cooked at the cooking pot. Fields can also be farmed for various crops such as wheat. Watering the fields will yield a healthy harvest and allow the player to keep a passive source of food.

4 Avoiding Bears

At the beginning of the game, there are very few enemies to deal with; especially since it will take players time to level up their character. The blue Monos are easy to deal with and can be fended off with a single punch. The issues arise when players have to deal with bears. Bears are fast and can cause a lot of damage even at a single swipe.

It’s better to deal with them once the character has been leveled up and well-equipped. If the bears chase the character, then they should climb cliffs as fast as possible. This would keep the bears at bay until it’s safe for the players to return to their task.

3 Business

Craftopia has an economic system that makes it fairly easy for players to earn money if they can keep their wits about them. Everything that the player crafts can have an equivalent value in gold. These items can then be sold off to create a sizeable profit that will be useful in the long term.

Players will have to craft markets using logs and stones to make their markets work. Deposit the sellable items to the market when they’re no longer needed. At five-minute intervals, players will be able to earn coins as the market will sell all the deposited items.

2 Invest In Survival Skills

Finding the right skillset for your character is supremely important in Craftopia. Since survival is a key component of the gameplay mechanics, it’s important to invest in skills that are more centered around survival and health. Focusing on these components will set the player up properly for surviving in the wild, and facing enemies who can be quite troublesome to defeat.

At the very beginning, Craftopia’s skills system wasn’t properly implemented and provided little explanation on what each skill did for the player. Thankfully, the system is better organized now and provides the player with important information.

1 Teleport To Islands

Craftopia has multiple islands that can be explored. Each island has its unique flora, fauna, and resources to mine. Teleportation to different islands can be done through the Altar of Teleportation. However, each time the player teleports, it will cost offerings to the Altar. A hidden Altar is present in the tutorial island.

If players want to craft their own Altar, they can do so after acquiring the required materials. The farther an island is the more material offerings that are required for teleportation. The farthest islands have rare resources that can be mined and harvested so that the player can grow.

Craftopia was released in July 2020 and is available on PC, Android, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
